A Not-So-Morbid Halloween
Morbid Industries Inc., maker of grizzly Halloween masks and other ghoulish accessories is jumping into the coffin business – namely, its own. The Massachusetts-based company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, only weeks ahead of Halloween. As part of the liquidation, Morbid aims to sell off its inventory before October 31. And that’s it, the company’s tombstone is already carved, another casualty of the grim recession.
The company may still rise from the dead if the right buyer is interested in keeping the business going, but for now Morbid has one foot in the grave.
It’s a shame. Halloween is one of those holidays that bring together children and adults – a combination of nostalgia and make-believe. Morbid’s line may not have been the makings of fairy princesses and Spider Mans, but it served a sector for the more Gothic enthusiast. I for one will miss the knock on Halloween that opens to someone who looks like he lost a fight with a cheese grater.
