Putting the “Law” in Hol-law-day Cards
Having tasked myself with the unenviable job of writing out a ton of holiday cards, I thought back to the days of yore (ok, last year) when sent my bit of cheer via the neutered firm holiday card. You know the one - with the serene winter setting on the front that wishes Seasons Greetings. I even admit that I sent said card to my family (?!), who won’t let me live that one down.
This year, in my effort to make the sentiment a bit more personal, I bought a variety of cards and debated over who gets cards featuring Santa, Frosty, or the Far Side. After all was said and done, my hands hurt, and I was out of 5 or 6 hours of work. Last year, that would have been 5 hours that could have been spent billing something. Frankly, the cards were a better time even if my hand hurt when it was all said and done. Nothing that some holiday ‘nog couldn’t numb.
So where am I going? I have to give a shout out to the Akin Gump Christmas card highlighted on Above the Law. It’s pretty clever and kudos for poking fun at our profession. Taking ourselves a little less seriously and embracing that inner child is what the holidays should be about.
So in this New Year, let’s resolve to have a little more fun and be a little less serious. Last year was rough and this year needs to put that behind us.
